„I am a natural dancer“, Robert Tewsley declares. Following his education at the Royal Ballet School and his career as a Principal Dancer in Toronto, Stuttgart, London and New York, he is nowadays a world-renowned freelance dancer with a very broad repertoire. His talent to empathize with very different characters on stage makes him one of the greatest dance-actors of his generation. In this photo book, the author retraces Robert Tewsley’s unusual biography from a tap-dancing boy in a medium-sized British town to a ballet star and ambassador of the English style all over the world. Numerous pictures by famous photographers and from Robert Tewsley’s private collection, many of them previously unpublished, document all periods of his life and his career. In this book, the readers not only gain insight into the life and thoughts of an exceptional artist, but they also learn about different dance cultures, styles, choreographers and works which Robert Tewsley has come across in the course of his exciting career. Die Autorin Iris Julia Bührle studied history of art, comparative literature and international relations in Stuttgart, Paris and Oxford. She has written numerous articles and scientific papers on ballet and is currently working on a doctorate on the relationship between literature and dance.
