Cities are undergoing a profound transformation in their economic basis. The emergence of a knowledge society and of service industries has reshaped the urban fabric in its architectural and social appearance. This book looks at case studies in different cities in Europe to analyse the causes and effects of the post-industrialisation of urban life. It represents a fi rst insight into the transdisciplinary research to understand more about the ongoing changes in our cities. Die Herausgeber Frank Eckardt holds a chair for urban studies and social research at the Bauhaus-University Weimar where he lectures and researchers on different topics of city life, since 1999. Sofi a Morgado lehrt Architektur an der Technischen Universität Lissabon.
