Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes gehen auf die 21. Internationale Strindberg-Konferenz zurück, die im Juni 2019 in Göttingen stattfand. Sie greifen Strindbergs ambivalentes Verhältnis zur Aufklärung auf, seine ebenso kritische wie produktive Auseinandersetzung mit den philosophischen und literarischen Strömungen des 18. Jahrhunderts. Das betrifft unter anderem Strindbergs wissenschaftliche und ästhetische Experimente, seine kulturkritischen Überlegungen und Konzeptionen sowie seine kontinuierliche Auseinandersetzung mit dem Projekt der Moderne und dem modernen Subjektbegriff in der Folge Kants.
The papers in this volume go back to the 21st International Strindberg Conference, which took place in Göttingen in June 2019. They take up Strindberg’s ambivalent relationship to the Enlightenment: his criticism of it as well as his productive preoccupation with the philosophy and literature of the 18th century. This applies, among other things, to Strindberg’s scientific and aesthetic experiments, his cultural-critical considerations and conceptions, as well as to his continuous engagement with the project of modernity and the modern concept of subject subsequently to Kant.
